The University of Law has teamed up with an online learning platform which specialises in quizzes to prepare students for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam. The move follows an announcement from Australasia’s leading training provider which plans to ‘Uberise’ legal education by offering fully digitalised preparatory courses for the SQE.

 

Synap has partnered with the University of Law and will form an ‘integral part’ of new training programmes developed by the university to prepare students for the first stage of the ‘super-exam’. Synap will also be available for those taking the Bar Practice Course.

 

Quizzes are the central feature of Synap – which is accessed by mobile device – and users can tailor questions according to their strengths and weaknesses. Tutors and students can also measure progress through learner analytics.

 

Professor Andrea Nollent, University of Law’s vice-chancellor and CEO, said: ‘The University is delighted to announce Synap as our exclusive partner in providing the online learning platform for the SQE 1 assessment and our new BPC programme. Innovation for the improvement of learning is central to ULaw’s ethos and our students expect the best and latest tools, such as Synap, to enable them to achieve their goals.’

 

Last month the College of Legal Practice, a subsidiary of Australasia’s foremost legal education provider, said it will provide fully digitalised courses for the SQE.

 

Professor Nigel Savage, former head of the University of Law, assumed the role of interim chief executive of the subsidiary earlier this year to steer the project to launch. Also on board as chief operations director is Peter Liver, executive director of membership services at the Law Society of England and Wales until March 2019.

 

The first stage of the SQE is due to be introduced in autumn 2021.
